Islamabad, November 10, 2023 : In a recent development, an accountability court in Islamabad issued a directive on Friday to lift the freeze on the properties belonging to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana reference case.
Upon the request of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, NAB Judge Mohammad Bashir issued an order to unfreeze the properties that had been seized by the provincial government of Punjab. This action was taken after Nawaz Sharif was declared a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana case.
In the year 2020, the accountability court in Islamabad had previously mandated the forfeiture of Nawaz Sharif’s assets and properties in connection to the Toshakhana reference.
Nawaz Sharif, the ex-prime minister, was designated a ‘proclaimed offender’ in the Toshakhana reference by an accountability court. Subsequently, the court, under Judge Asghar Ali, issued a permanent arrest warrant due to his consistent non-appearance.
The judge further released orders to seize assets and properties, encompassing land, high-end vehicles, and accounts held in both local and foreign banks that were associated with Nawaz Sharif.
Furthermore, the court took possession of 1,650 acres of agricultural land in Lahore and 102 acres in Sheikhupura that were registered under Nawaz Sharif’s ownership, along with his residence in Murree.
As per the report, the former prime minister was identified as the owner of three vehicles, consisting of one Land Cruiser and two Mercedes.
In a development last month, the accountability court granted bail to Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, in the Toshakhana case.
