Morne Morkel steps down from his role as the bowling coach for Pakistan

Morne Morkel quits coaching

Lahore, November 13, 2023 : On Monday, Morne Morkel, the former South African pacer, resigned from his position as Pakistan’s bowling coach, citing his commitments to upcoming leagues.

The ex-South African fast bowler had entered into a six-month contract with the Pakistan team in June of this year. Morne Morkel’s initial assignment with the Green Shirts took place during their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series.

His decision to resign follows the Pakistan team’s disappointing exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan’s team fell short of reaching the semi-finals and secured the fifth position in the mega event, with four wins and five losses. The Green Shirts experienced defeats against India, Australia, South Africa, and England.

Insiders familiar with the matter have indicated that Umar Gul is a leading candidate for the position of the bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team. Captain Babar Azam is also encountering criticism and pressure due to the team’s performance.

Pakistan is currently focusing on the upcoming pivotal series of three Test matches against Australia, set to take place from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, in Australia.
