Punjab, December 07, 2023 : On a single day (Wednesday), Punjab police issued a record-breaking 111,000 driving licenses.
Following a tragic incident in Lahore’s DHA area, where an underage driver caused the death of six individuals, the police have initiated a crackdown on individuals driving without a valid license.
A spokesperson for Punjab police mentioned that a remarkable number of driving licenses were issued on Wednesday.
He added that the issued licenses encompass learning, national, and international categories. According to the breakdown provided by Punjab police, 27,000 licenses were distributed in Lahore, 8,113 in Faisalabad, 7,843 in Gujranwala, and 7,597 in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
On December 5, the Punjab government increased the driving license fee from Rs60 to Rs1,000.
The hike was sanctioned in the 33rd session of the provincial cabinet, presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday.
Lahore Traffic Police also conveyed that individuals can continue to apply at the previous fee rate until December 31.
