Pakistan secured a commanding 68-run victory over India in the eighth match of the 2024 World Championship of Legends at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan posted a formidable total of 243/4. The opening duo of Sharjeel Khan and Kamran Akmal provided a strong start, amassing a partnership of 145 runs for the first wicket.
Sharjeel Khan’s explosive innings of 72 from just 30 balls included seven fours and five sixes. Kamran Akmal continued the aggressive batting, scoring 77 off 40 balls before being bowled by Pawan Negi in the 14th over.
Sohaib Maqsood contributed significantly to the total with a powerful 51 off 26 balls, smashing five sixes and two fours. Shahid Afridi was dismissed without scoring (golden duck), while Shoaib Malik finished unbeaten on 25 from 18 deliveries.
Chasing a target of 244 runs, India made a strong start with Robin Uthappa scoring 22 off 12 balls before being dismissed by Sohail Khan.
Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina built a solid partnership, but India faced a setback when Rayudu was dismissed for 39 runs by Shoaib Malik.
Malik then maintained control over the run rate, slowing down India’s momentum. Wahab Riaz’s crucial over led to the dismissals of Irfan Pathan (15) and Pawan Negi (1), adding to India’s challenges in the chase.
Ultimately, India finished their innings at 175/9 in response to Pakistan’s target.
