Rawalpindi, August 03, 2024: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan stated on Saturday that he is willing to hold talks, but only within constitutional limits.
“I will hold talks while staying within the Constitution,” Khan said to reporters inside Adiala Jail.
His remarks followed his recent expression of willingness to negotiate with the military, requesting them to nominate a representative for discussions. “We are ready to hold talks with the military. The army should nominate their representative for negotiations,” he said.
Reiterating the party’s demand for their allegedly stolen mandate to be returned, Khan also responded to a question about Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s refusal to talk with the army, saying: “Achakzai will only hold talks with political parties.”
When asked about Sher Afzal Marwat’s party membership termination, Khan initially gave no response. On Friday, PTI suspended Marwat’s membership for “gross violation/breach” of discipline, though party chairman Barrister Gohar called the notification “fake.”
Imran Khan, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and numerous party workers face multiple charges related to the violent riots that erupted on May 9 last year after Khan’s arrest. The riots led to the vandalism of several military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore.
