KARACHI, November 14 2024: A high-level delegation led by the Senior Vice Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) visited the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) today to hold important discussions with the Chief Executive Mr. Zubair Motiwala and Secretary Mr. Sheryar Taj. The meeting, marked by cordial exchanges and fruitful dialogue, focused on strategies to boost the country’s rice exports and enhance its standing in the global market.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Zubair Motiwala and Mr. Sheryar Taj, who expressed their support for the initiative and acknowledged the critical role of rice exports in Pakistan’s economy. Both parties emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships between the private and public sectors to tackle the challenges facing Pakistan’s rice industry.
During the meeting, various strategies were discussed, ranging from identifying new and emerging international markets to overcoming the export barriers currently affecting rice trade. The delegation highlighted the need to improve the quality and packaging of rice products to meet global standards, as well as the potential for expanding exports to underdeveloped markets with growing demand.
One of the key topics of conversation was the enhancement of Pakistan’s rice export infrastructure. Both Mr. Motiwala and Mr. Taj agreed that a comprehensive approach is required to streamline the supply chain, which includes improving logistics, ensuring timely shipments, and reducing costs to make Pakistani rice more competitive in the international market.
“We need to focus on strengthening our rice export sector and ensure that we maintain the highest standards in production and packaging. By working closely with TDAP, we believe that the industry can overcome existing hurdles and unlock new opportunities for growth,” said the Senior Vice Chairman of REAP.
The discussions also explored potential policy adjustments and government support that could encourage rice farmers and exporters. A collective approach involving more research, innovation, and modernization was also proposed to ensure that Pakistan remains a key player in the global rice trade.
Both Mr. Motiwala and Mr. Taj committed to continuing their collaboration to create an environment conducive to increasing Pakistan’s rice exports. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing that the success of the sector will significantly contribute to the country’s broader economic goals of sustainable growth and development.
As a country known for its high-quality rice, Pakistan has the potential to increase its exports, and today’s meeting marked an important step toward turning that potential into reality.
The REAP delegation left the TDAP office with renewed optimism and a stronger sense of collaboration, as efforts continue to boost Pakistan’s agricultural exports and strengthen its position in the global market.
