KARACHI, February 04 2025: The Sindh government has decided to establish dedicated police stations across all divisions, including Karachi, to combat price gouging and ensure the regulation of essential commodity prices.
In a high-level meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Bureau of Supplies Usman Hingoro and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for IT Waqar Mehdi, officials reviewed measures to curb inflation and prevent profiteering. Agriculture Secretary Sohail Ahmed Qureshi, Director General Bureau of Supplies and Prices Shakir Qayyum Khanzada, and representatives from the private sector also participated.
Officials briefed the meeting on price control measures, after which Usman Hingoro announced the formation of police stations to take strict action against hoarders and profiteers. He also directed the registration of all warehouses before Ramadan and the establishment of special stalls for essential commodities at discount markets. To regulate fruit prices, authorities will monitor cold storage facilities in Sindh’s vegetable markets.
Waqar Mehdi emphasized that these police stations will operate across the province with enforcement powers to act against violations. He also ordered special monitoring duties in markets to promptly address consumer complaints and ensure fair pricing.
The government will set up spice stalls at discounted rates in Karachi’s discount markets, while street vendors and pushcart sellers must display official price lists.
In a recent crackdown, the Bureau of Supplies inspected 272 units in Karachi over the past three weeks, imposing fines worth PKR 536,000 on violators. The Sindh government remains committed to ensuring fair pricing and protecting consumers from exploitation.
