Budget allocation is necessary for digital economy

Karachi, July 27, 2019: For the digitization of Economy, the policy components of Digital Policy of Pakistan need to be backed by appropriate budgetary allocations by the Government.

This was stated by Jameel Ahmad Khan, President of Pakistan Academy of Engineering while delivering his welcome address in the 14th Symposium of the Pakistan Academy of Engineering held at a local hotel in Karachi on the topic “Preparing for our Digital Economy” on Saturday, July 27, 2019.

Jameel Ahmed lamented the fact that Pakistan does not rank high in important global indices of Cyber Security and Business to Consumer E-commerce. In the context of Digital Policy 2017, he further added that a comprehensive role and responsibility matrix was developed by the Ministry of Information Technology.

The ambitious plan set out in the Roles and Responsibilities matrix needs to be transparently monitored. Muhammad Nouman Durrani and Nadeem Kafi Khan of Fast NUCES jointly delivered a presentation on “Role of Big Data and Cloud in Digital Economy”.

The speakers emphasized that the data must be cleaned, secured, vetted for compliance and continuously maintained. Jawwad Shamsi, who is Director NUCES Fast Karachi, in his presentation, highlighted aspects of Things. He identified a security, privacy, network infrastructure, scalability and energy as key issues.

Rameez Khalid of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi presented a research work showcasing strategy for optimizing CPEC’s Routes using Technology.

In his interesting presentation on the topic of Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Sajjad Haider, who is Professor of the faculty of Computer Science, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi shared the impact and implications of Artificial Intelligence and data analytics on businesses and job market.

Suresh Kumar Rajput Assistant of SBIC IBA Sukkur delivered his speech on Block Chain and the opportunities in future. He also shared that SBIC is currently working on many Block Chain projects.

A comprehensive presentation was delivered by Dr. Rizwan Aslam Butt, Assistant Professor NED University of Engineering and Technology and Mr. Abdullah of Zambeel Academy of 5G Technology. On between 4G and 5G, in his presentation they shared that to be significantly higher than 4G.

The symposium concluded after Questions and Answers session. Pakistan Academy of Engineering (PAE) is a thinking laboratory and provides input and technology issue. This growing organization is comprised of fellow engineers in Pakistan.
