Food inflation normalizes to pull down CPI by 0.34pc

Karachi, January 02, 2020: Headline inflation for December stood at 12.63 percent YoY, slightly lower than 12.67 percent in Nov-2019. Moreover, cumulative CPI for 1HFY20 averaged 11.1 percent YoY.

The real story of the month though was the sequential decline of 0.34 percent MoM in headline inflation. This was almost singlehandedly led by food inflation, which dropped by 1.66 percent MoM.

The decline in food inflation in December was particularly visible in chicken, tomatoes, onions, fresh vegetables and sugar indices.
