Ground breaking of New Gwadar Airport performed

Gwadar, March 29, 2019: Prime Minister Imran Khan has performed the groundbreaking of New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) today (29th March 2019) along with Ambassador of People’s Republic of China Mr Yao Jing in a prestigious and simple ceremony held here at Business Center,  Gwadar Port area organized by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.  

Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister announced various other development schemes for the city, what he believed would become an engine of growth for Pakistan.

“What a pleasure it is to be in Gwadar. Insha Allah, in coming months, years, Gwadar would be, I see, as engine of growth for Pakistan,” he said.

 

The event was attended by federal ministers, Balochistan chief minister, parliamentarians, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Yao Jing besides huge number of Chinese workers and government officials.

 

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Federal Minister for Aviation and Privatization Mohammadmian Soomro, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China Mr Yao Jing and Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan also spoke on the occasion.

NGIAP Project was inducted as an Early Harvest High Priority Project of CPEC Program in January, 2014. Government of People’s Republic of China has agreed to assist Pakistan for implementation of New Gwadar International Airport Project under Chinese Grant Assistance. 

The NGIAP project is part of overall infrastructure development of Balochistan. The airport will be developed as a green-field airport with all modern facilities for safe operation, passengers comfort and convenience.

Land acquired by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority for the NGIAP project is located at 26 km east of Gwadar in the Gurandani area, just off the Makran Coastal Highway. The airport site is spread over an area of 4,300 acres.

Its main runway is 3,658 meter  x 75 meter  including paved shoulders (with provision for Future Second Runway at a distance of 760 meter to the north of Main Runway) while its link Taxiway is 23 meter wide with 10.5 meter  paved shoulders on both sides. The airport’s runway will be capable to accommodate large aircrafts such as A380. 

A modern terminal building with 14000 square meters will be built under this project. 

Its cargo terminal has initial handling capacity of 30,000 tons per year. 

In addition to Air Traffic Control (ATC), Fir Crash and Rescue (FCR), Fuel Farm, it has other associated buildings & infrastructure necessary for Airport operations.
