Karachi, June 30, 2022: The construction of 8 km 2×2 lane of Mauripur Expressway and around 1 km 2 lane (one way) Interchange at ICI Bridge with the cost Rs. 11.2 billion is expected to commence by December 2022.
The Mauripur Expressway & ICI Interchange projects are expected to provide connection and speedy access to Karachi Beach area while the project will also facilitate Karachi port heavy traffic going/coming from all over country through the junction without stopping.
This will also to facilitate city traffic using Mauripur road for their ultimate destination and it will further resolve traffic congestion during evening peak hours on Jinnah Bridge, where currently more than one-kilometer queue length of vehicles can be observed due to this signalized junction.
This project is part of the Sindh government’s Public Private Partnership Project Portfolio which is growing progressively with multiple projects in infrastructure, health, water, information technology, Special Economic Zones, education and urban development sectors.
Some of the key projects under this PPP Project for the financial year 2022-23 include:
Malir Expressway Project
The biggest infrastructure project for Karachi 38.75 KM, six lane, controlled access Malir Expressway, is now under construction and it is expected to be completed in 3 years’ time. This will reduce the travel time from over an hour to 25 minutes. The project will not only decongest Karachi city but also provide a safer means of transportation, save infrastructure from wear and tear and usher an era of speedy development in the outskirts of Karachi.
M9-N5 Link Road Project (LRP)
The M9-N5 Link Road Project (LRP) serves as the Commercial Corridor providing up-country access to the traffic emanating from Port Qasim, Industrial areas of Landhi, Korangi and Steel Mill and is located at the heart of Karachi’s three major developments. The project is to dualize and rehabilitate the two-lane Link Road around 20 KM connecting Super Highway M-9 and National Highway N-5 on a new alignment under the PPP Mode.
The Concession agreement was awarded in April 2021 and the project is under construction which is likely to be completed next year. It may be noted that it is the only project in Sindh which will be 100% financed by the Private Partner with its own equity with no Bank and VGF Financing.
