US supports policies to bring economic stability in Pakistan: Wells

Islamabad, April 29, 2019: A US delegation, led by US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador Alice Wells, called on Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, here today.

Matters pertaining to the promotion of economic and business relations between the two countries were discussed. The meeting underlined the need to deepen the engagements between the two countries in the area of trade, economy, and energy.

The Adviser informed the delegation that Pakistan valued its ties with the US and both countries needed to work to create an environment to move forward for the mutual benefits of the two sides.

He referred to the sacrifices rendered by the people and Armed Forces of Pakistan while fighting the war on terror and said that both countries had shared a concern about militancy and extremism. He said that Pakistan had borne the brunt of the war on terror by sacrificing thousands of security forces and civilians.

Pakistan’s role in the promotion of peace and stability also came under discussion during the meeting. Ambassador Wells lauded Pakistan’s efforts for promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan. She said that both countries needed to work together for the expansion of economic relations.

Ambassador Wells appreciated the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan for the economic stability to the country.  She said that the US would support policies aimed at bringing economic stability in Pakistan.
