Nation remembers Hakim Saeed as great philanthropist: Governor Sindh

Karachi, January 13, 2020: ‘Hakim Mohammed Saeed was a great man in true sense of the word as great men are those who are philanthropists, serve the people selflessly and spend their earnings on the welfare of masses as done by Hakim Mohammed Said.’

This was stated by Imran Ismail, Governor of Sindh, the other day while addressing the Hakim Mohammed Said Awards ceremony 2020 as a chief guest on the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Hakim Saeed at Mohatta Palace, Karachi.

He further said: ‘Hakim Saeed is a role model for all of us and we should follow his footsteps.’ Latter along with Mrs Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, he presented awards to squash legend Jahangir Khan; top goal scorer in field of Hockey Sohail Abbas; Mushtaq Chapra in recognition of his exceptional services to education; Imran Aslam for excellence in journalism; Smina Ahmed for excellence in  performing art; Parveen Saeed for iconic social work; Moin Akhtar (post-humous) for brilliance in art and entertainment; Mustansar Hussain Tarar for literature and travelogues; Master Ayub for promoting education to the poor segment of society and Tahira Qazi (post-humous) for bravery and valour as she put her life on danger to protect her students. Post humous awards of Moin Akhtar and Tahira Qazi are received by their sons, Mansoor Akhtar and Ahmed Qazi, respectively.

Mrs Sadia Rashid in a welcome address said that the Hakim Mohammed Saeed Awards were held to encourage and recognize exceptional individuals in different fields for their remarkable contributions. These traits were part of Hakim Mohammed Saeed who used to encourage people, she added.

“This event takes place on 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Saeed who committed his life for the betterment of Pakistan. It is indeed a pleasure for me to give awards to remarkable Pakistanis on this auspicious day and these awards acknowledge the contribution as recognition by society is a strong motivator,” she said.

She emphasized on the importance of recognition and gave examples of Nobel Prize, Lenin Prize, Shah Faisal Award and Golden Globe.

She congratulated all the recipients of this year’s awards and asked youth to learn more about great people, especially Hakim Said, by reading their biographies to get inspired. Hakim Said devoted his life to serve humanity, goodness and development of Pakistan, she maintained.

Meanwhile squash legend Jahangir Khan’s award was received by Anwar Maqsood, who is in England these days. In a video message Jahangir Khan said: “For me, receiving Hakim Mohammed Said Award is a highest honour even though I have been awarded numerous times. Because this Award is named after Hakim Saeed who was a great visionary, a reformer and a big name of Pakistan.”

On the occasion, a cake cutting ceremony was also held where Governor Sindh and Mrs Sadia Rashid cut the cake to mark 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Saeed. Event was hosted by renowned humorist and a writer Anwar Maqsood. Famous Qawwal Farid Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and their associates presented beautiful Qawwali and received warm appreciation from the guests. Sadia Rashid gave special shield of Replica of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s Seal to Governor Sindh.

Besides distinguished guests, directors, managers and workers of Hamdard attended the ceremony.
