OGRA made 474 quality checks to find out petrol pumps overcharging

Karachi, September 23, 2022: The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority found a number of petrol pumps involved in overcharging, less filling and quality failure during 474 quality checks the authority made in the Financial Year 2020-21.

According to OGRA’s annual report for the fiscal year 2020-21, quality checks both at local and at import level were carried out to ensure that the quality was being dispensed to the consumers.

The report revealed that a number of petrol pumps have been inspected and showcause notices were served to respective Oil Marketing Companies on account of overcharging, quantity measurement (less filling) and quality failure at their outlets.

On the basis of submissions of OMCs, further necessary actions were taken in accordance with the provisions of the OGRA Ordinance 2002 and applicable rules/regulations.

It is to be noted that OGRA has endeavored to develop an efficient and effective mechanism to check and control the malpractices in the country’s oil Sector.

The report stated that it was observed by the authority that the retailers of different OMCs tend to charge prices of petroleum products higher than the officially notified prices from the consumers.
