SEPA stops Engro factory operations on gas leakage

Karachi, March 06, 2020: Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) ordered the management of Engro Polymer Company to stop its operations when one of its plants in Bin Qasim Industrial Area emitted gas on Friday.

On the directives of CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, a team of SEPA led by its DG Naeem Mughal arrived at the place of incident and ordered stoppage of all its operations as all its plants over there were inter-connected. The plant which earlier emitted gas was already shut down by the company.

Advisor to CM Sindh Barrister Murtuza Wahab was directly overseeing the monitoring operation of SEPA.

The company was also informed that its operations will remain closed till it ensures SEPA of full compliance with provincial environmental regulations.

The management of the company was also offered an opportunity of personal hearing to explain its position on the subject matter.

Meanwhile, another tean of SEPA visited JPMC and AKUH to collect the data of patients affected by the gas leak. Earlier, on the directives of Advisor on Law and Environment Barrister Murtuza Wahab, 70 affected people were provided necessary medical treatment at JPMC and were discharged from the hospital.
