Karachi, July 23, 2022: Sindh Solid Waste Management Board’s under its SWEEP project with the support of World Bank will establish modern Landfill Site at Dhabeji and also upgrade Jam Chakro Landifll Site into a scientifically engineered Landfill Site.
Garbage transfer stations as per international standard with Material Recovery Facility (MRF) will also be established under the said project.
Besides, the government of Sindh in view of the extended operations of SSWMB has increased its budget from Rs 8.00 billion to Rs 12.00 billion for the financial year 2022-23.
It is to be noted that SSWMB was initially operational in five districts of Karachi i.e. South, East, West, Malir and Kaemari but this year solid waste operations also commenced in the remaining two districts of Karachi namely Korangi and Central.
The SSWMB intends to further expand operations to other Districts of Sindh in the current financial year which include Hyderabad, Qasimabad, Kotri, Sukkur City and Rohri.
In this regard, procurement process has already been completed and operations are to start later this year.
