Stock Market Performance during 2022

Karachi, July 07, 2022: The benchmark KSE 100 index slipped over 5,000 pts during the year to close at 41,540.83. The index not only recorded a fall of 12.28% but liquidity also dried up. Overall market volumes contract 45% compared to FY21 amidst political & economic uncertainty.

Foreign investors ended the year as net sellers of US$ 297.51 mn. Highest outflow was witnessed in the month of May’22.

The Modaraba sector ended as top gainer for the year gaining 66% in its market capitalization.

The Investment Banking sector failed to attract investors attention as the sector ended as top loser with a loss of 26% in its market capitalization.

AWTX observed the highest appreciation (286.81%), while MFFL lost 77.11% in its value.

The Pakistani rupee recorded its all-time low at PKR 211.9333/ US$ during FY22. On FYTD basis, the rupee depreciated by 30% and closed the year at PKR 204.8467/USD.

Pakistan continued to witness an upward trend in inflation as it rose from 10.90% in May’21 to 13.80% in May’22.
