Usman Kakar buried: ‘The Biggest Funeral in Pashtun Region’

Karachi, June 24, 2021: This was the first and only grave in the Muslim Bagh cemetery where Usman Kakar was laid to rest. People reached Muslim Bagh not only from Balochistan but from all corners of the country.

Leaders of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party claim that “millions of people attended Usman Kakar’s funeral” Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai also called it “the largest funeral in the Pashtun region.”

The funeral prayer of the former senator was offered by Senator Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman, brother of JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Member National Assembly Mohsin Dawar, ANP provincial president Asghar Khan Achakzai, members of the Senate, members of national and provincial assemblies, political, religious, social figures and tribal elders also attended the funeral.

A condolence message from Afghan President Dr. Ashraf Ghani was also read out at the funeral in which he paid tribute to Usman Kakar while acknowledging his political services and efforts for peace in Afghanistan. We share the grief of Kakar’s family and his party.

According to a statement from the Afghan government, “an Afghan government delegation led by Advisor to the Afghan President Muhammad Sarwar Ahmadzai and Minister for Border Affairs Mohibullah Samim also wanted to attend the funeral but the Pakistani government did not allow it.”

It may be recalled that Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Usman Kakar was admitted to a private hospital in Quetta on June 17 with a head injury where he underwent an operation and on June 19 he was shifted to Karachi by air ambulance. He died on June 21 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi.

His body was flown from Karachi to Quetta on Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday night in his native region called Muslim Bagh in Qila Saifullah district of Balochistan.

While addressing to the funeral, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said, “Usman Khan Kakar did not die of any disease but he was abused. People entered his house. We have evidence that we are prepared to give to an independent and impartial investigative body.”
