Young talent basis for country’s development: President

Islamabad, April 5, 2019: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Friday said Pakistan’s young talent had huge potential in modern scientific and technological advancements, which was basis of country’s development.

In his address at closing ceremony of 3rd Huawei-Pakistan ‘ICT Competition 2018-19’, held in Higher Education Commission (HEC) President said impending aptitude shown by Pakistani students abroad in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) was needed to be further expanded within youth.

The president urged country’s youth to maximize their participation in research and development of modern communication software and hardware. He said latest researches in ICT sector have opened new doors of competition for which Pakistan required more collective efforts to promote young talent.

Referring to China’s emerging market in ICT sector, the president noted determination and commitment were essential factors for a nation to reach the desired destination. With continued efforts and consistent approach China has become a regional leader, he added, saying China was a regional gladiator in economic and technological terms.

He said a state should provide conducive economic atmosphere for consistent economic activities. ‘Naya Pakistan’ has intellectual and talented minds, engaged in making favorable ambiance, he said. He went on saying, with that vibrant and diligent youth; no one could stop Pakistan from peace and prosperity.

The president lauded the performance of six young Pakistanis students who have been selected for regional final competition, which will be held in China this year. He said Pakistan’s youth has skills and allegiance, which he said was encouraging for future of science and technology in Pakistan.

He also encouraged household women having knowledge and skills, to contribute for national development. ‘Huge investment of money and time is required, but this challenge can be addressed by involving enormous women sitting at homes’ he added.

The president pointed out a gap between industrial needs and universities’ output. He stressed relevant stakeholders, institutions and authorities for collaborative efforts to devise required strategy to fill that gap.

The president while highlighting main areas of scientific tools’ application said agriculture sector, hybrid seed technology and artificial intelligence in software developments were among priority areas for rapid changes in system.

He appreciated HEC’s role in facilitating and giving opportunities to young talent to express their skills in different fields. He said it was everyone’s responsibility to improve education standard in country. He emphasized to further increase opportunities of higher education for youth.

The president distributed awards among six distinguished students. He also congratulated them and their teachers in taking them to that level. He extended his best wishes to them during forthcoming regional finals.
