BYD Shark 6 Earns Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

BYD Shark 6 Earns Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

BYD’s Shark 6 DMO pick-up has earned a maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, strengthening its position in the new-energy vehicle market.

The rating recognises the vehicle’s performance across occupant protection, vulnerable road user safety and driver-assistance systems. According to the assessment, the Shark 6 achieved an 82% score for adult occupant protection and 86% for child occupant protection.

The results were announced on October 23, 2026, as BYD continues to expand its range of new-energy vehicles. The Euro NCAP report draws on an earlier assessment by Australia’s and New Zealand’s safety organisation ANCAP, along with additional evaluations by Euro NCAP.

Strong Scores in Occupant Protection

The Shark 6 performed well in frontal-offset, full-width frontal and side-impact assessments. Euro NCAP also highlighted protection for child occupants, including the performance of child dummies representing six- and ten-year-old passengers in the side barrier impact test.

The vehicle’s child presence detection system also received recognition. The technology warns drivers when it detects that a child may have been left inside the vehicle.

In the vulnerable road user category, the Shark 6 scored 74%. Its autonomous emergency braking system performed well in tests involving cyclists and responded effectively to motorcyclists.

The vehicle scored 87% in the Safety Assist category. Euro NCAP highlighted its emergency braking response to other vehicles, lane-departure support and speed assistance technology, which can automatically set the speed limiter based on detected local speed limits.

BYD Highlights Technology and Safety

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, said the rating reflected the company’s engineering and electronics capabilities.

She noted that BYD’s research and development team continues to develop technologies intended to improve everyday mobility. She also described the Shark 6 as a vehicle designed to combine work-focused capability with SUV-like comfort and electric driving.

The company says the pick-up can travel up to 90 kilometres on electric power alone, depending on the applicable driving conditions and measurement cycle.

Hybrid Powertrain Delivers 436 HP

The BYD Shark 6 uses the company’s Super Hybrid DMO powertrain, which combines two electric motors with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The system delivers a combined maximum output of 436 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. BYD states that the vehicle can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.7 seconds.

Its 29.5 kWh Blade Battery is integrated into the ladder-frame platform using Cell-to-Chassis technology. The company also claims a combined driving range of up to 800 kilometres with a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank.

The five-seat double-cab pick-up includes Vehicle-to-Load technology, allowing users to power compatible equipment through onboard power sockets.

Technology and Cabin Features

The Shark 6 comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a head-up display and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with navigation, voice assistance, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other features include heated and ventilated front seats, vegan-leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, a 50W wireless phone charger and remote cabin heating and cooling through the BYD app.

Parking assistance features include front and rear sensors and a 360-degree camera system. The vehicle also offers keyless entry and keyless start.

Anniversary Offer for Pakistani Customers

To mark the Shark 6’s first anniversary in Pakistan, BYD is offering new customers a one-year free service maintenance package covering parts and labour.

The offer applies to full-payment bookings made until October 31, 2026, according to the company.

The five-star rating adds to the Shark 6’s safety credentials as BYD promotes the model as a pick-up combining hybrid efficiency, technology and practical utility.
