Karachi, May 21, 2024 : Following the example of Punjab and Balochistan, the Sindh Education Department announced on Tuesday that all private and public schools and colleges will have summer holidays.
According to a notification issued here, all public and private institutions in Sindh will observe summer holidays from June 1 to July 31.
“In pursuance of decisions taken in the steering committee meeting, all public and private institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall remain closed from June 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, for summer vacation,” the notification stated.
Earlier, the Sindh government considered announcing early summer vacations across the province due to the ongoing heatwave.
However, this decision was revised after the Met Department denied reports of a heatwave in Karachi this month.
Yesterday, the Punjab government announced early summer holidays for all public and private schools due to the prevailing heatwave.
According to a notification, all government and private schools in Punjab will be closed from May 25 until August 15.
In a statement, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat mentioned that a large number of private schools had contacted the government regarding early summer holidays.
Initially, the government announced that all public and private schools in Punjab would remain closed from June 1 until August 14, 2024, for summer vacations.
Heatwave Alert
The Met Office has issued a heatwave alert, stating that due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere, heatwave conditions are expected to develop across most parts of the country, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, from May 21. These conditions are likely to intensify into a severe heatwave from May 23 to 27.
Day temperatures in Sindh and Punjab are expected to be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal from May 21 to 23, and 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal from May 23 to 27.
In Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan, day temperatures are forecasted to be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal from May 21 to 27.
