Sindh Government Urges Global Action on Kashmir, Says Hemnani
Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani calls for protection of Kashmiri rights and a peaceful resolution of the dispute under relevant UN resolutions.
Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani has urged the international community to take meaningful action on Kashmir, saying that statements of concern must be followed by sustained efforts to protect the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Kashmir Black Day, Hemnani reaffirmed the Sindh government’s support for the people of Kashmir. He said the dispute involved fundamental human rights, religious freedom and the right to self-determination.
“The people of Sindh stand with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters,” Hemnani said, adding that the international community should not ignore their concerns.
Hemnani Calls for International Scrutiny
Hemnani referred to reports and assessments by Amnesty International, Freedom House and the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), arguing that concerns about human rights in Kashmir and religious freedom in India required continued international attention.
He said USCIRF had recommended that the United States designate India as a Country of Particular Concern over religious-freedom violations. He also referred to recommendations concerning targeted sanctions against individuals and organisations over alleged involvement in, or tolerance of, such violations.
Hemnani criticised the Indian government’s policies towards religious minorities and its administration of Kashmir, calling for greater international scrutiny of fundamental freedoms and minority rights.
These remarks reflected the Sindh government spokesperson’s position on the dispute and the concerns he raised at the press conference.
Religious Freedom and Pilgrimage Access
Hemnani contrasted his criticism of India’s policies with Pakistan’s facilitation of religious pilgrims, highlighting the importance of religious access despite political tensions.
He named several Hindu and Sikh religious sites, including Shadani Darbar, Raharki Sahib, Sadh Belo, Aror Mandir, temples in Nagarparkar, Kartarpur, Nankana Sahib, Katas Raj and Hinglaj Mata.
Identifying himself as a Pakistani Hindu, Hemnani said he was able to practise his religion and participate in the country’s political life.
“Our message is one of peace, brotherhood and tolerance,” he said.
Kashmir Is a National Cause, Says Hemnani
The spokesperson said Kashmir remained a national cause that transcended political differences. He reaffirmed the Sindh government’s support for Pakistan’s position on the dispute.
He also stressed that annual rallies and speeches should be supported by sustained diplomatic and public engagement. According to Hemnani, Kashmiri voices and human rights concerns should continue to be raised before international institutions, policymakers and the media.
Call for Peaceful Resolution Under UN Resolutions
Hemnani urged the international community to support a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
He said international concern should translate into practical efforts to address the dispute and protect the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He concluded that keeping Kashmir on the international agenda required continued engagement rather than occasional statements of support.
