FPCCI launches ceremony on 100 mln tree plantation drive campaign

Karachi, August 27, 2019: As a part of 100 Million Tree Plantation / Drive Campaign initiated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan with the view to increase forest cover throughout the country, Engr. Daroo Khan Achakzai, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) also launched a ceremony at all the FPCCI Offices through video link from Capital Office Islamabad (Chair); Head Office Karachi and Zonal Offices Lahore.

In a simple and impressive ceremony held at FPCCI Capital Office Islamabad, the FPCCI Chief while inaugurating the ceremony highlighted the importance of the drive and informed that Pakistan is among the countries where forest areas had been severely destroyed resulting multiple environment / climate issues and challenges like global warming , depletion Mangroves ; increase in emission from deforestation and forest degradation ; decrease in wildlife resources ; watershed and social conservation problems in hilly and river catchment areas etc.

Imran Ismail, Governor Sindh, Mr. Azam Khan Swati, Minister for Parliamentary affairs and Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting also graced the ceremony with their august presence and underscored the need to preserve and improve the environment through forestation.

The President of FPCCI hoped that the launching of 100 million campaign drive would lead the country in revival forestry and control of air pollution; weather; wildlife; forestation; watershed management and soil conservation to combat the negative impacts of climate change.

The ceremony, inter-alia, was also attended by Mr. S.M. Muneer, Former Chief Executive TDAP and Former President of FPCCI, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Former President FPCCI, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, SVP FPCCI, Abdul Rauf Mukhtar, Shireen Arshad Khan, Vice Presidents of FPCCI, Mr. Amir Khan, President Interest at Private Limited (Public News TV and A-Plus TV Channels) Abdul Rahim Soomro, Secretary Forest, Government of Sindh and Raja Haseeb Kayani, Convener of FPCCI Standing Committee on “Infrastructure Development & Projects” and spoke on the occasion.
