Dire needs of Social Security laws’ revision: NKATI

Karachi, February 25, 2021: Faisal Moiz Khan, President North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI), has said that the industrialists of North Karachi Industrial Area are playing their important role in the economic development of Pakistan but unfortunately the industrialists of this industrial area have been left helpless.

Speaking at a seminar organized at North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI) in collaboration with Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and International Labour Organization (ILO) on “The Importance of Social Security Benefits”, he said that Industrialists want to be affiliated with Sindh Employees Social Security Institution(SESSI), which is very beneficial for factory workers. Therefore, there is a need to properly highlight the usefulness and importance of social security.

The seminar was also addressed by Zaki Ahmad Khan, Vice President EFP, Ms. Tasneem Saeed, National Project Coordinator ILO, Sadiq Muhammad, CEO NKIDMC and Syed Tariq Rashid, Chairman Labor Sub-Committee of NKATI. Naeem Haider, VP NKATI, members of the Managing Committee and members of NKATI also attended the seminar.

Syed Tariq Rashid, Chairman Labor Sub-Committee, was of the opinion that the importance and necessity of social security cannot be denied. However, its laws are in dire need of revision. “Referring to the visit of Saeed Ghani, Sindh Labor Minister to NKATI, he stated that at that time the provincial minister said that social security laws were being simplified so that the workers of the factories would be able to avail the facilities”, he mentioned.

Sadiq Mohammad, Chief Executive Officer, North Karachi Industrial & Management Company (NKIDMC), said that such a seminar provides guidance on social security as it SESSI is one of the best institutions of the Sindh government but some shortcomings need to be addressed. NKATI presented his views on these issues at every forum and hoped that would be rectified soon.

Zaki Ahmad Khan, Vice President EFP and Ms. Tasneem Saeed, National Project Coordinator ILO, highlighted the purpose of conducting seminars on social security was to provide facilities to the working class of the factories and in this regard, they will convey these views in any forum that needs to be discussed and as far as possible, we will play a vital role in eliminating loopholes in social security laws.
