Carton Manufacturers in deep trouble due to shortage of raw material

Karachi, March 15, 2021: In a press statement of “All Pakistan Corrugated Cartons Manufacturers’ Association” it was said that carton manufacturers are in deep trouble due to shortage of raw material. As a result of COVID-19 pandemic all over the world, a price hike of waste paper was noticed in the domestic and international markets. The aftermath of this was an increment in prices of all kinds of paper used in corrugated carton manufacturing units, by 50 percent affecting production and threatening to sent hundreds of small & medium enterprises in loss, all over Pakistan.

Corrugated boxes also known as carton boxes are extensively used by companies in the Pharma, FMCG, Foods, Automobiles, textiles, fruits, fisheries and many other sectors of exports.

The increase in exports and decrease in the imports has hindered the supply of raw material over the time span of last few months.

The unprecedented price hike has pushed many manufacturers to the brink of closure. ‘Constant difficulties and hurdles are faced due to severe shortage of paper’, said the Chairman of APCCMA. 

The entire corrugated industry is  purchasing paper at higher rates since January 2021, but unfortunately mostly carton manufacturers’ have not received any increment from their clients hence suffering huge losses. The Chairman, Masroor Mirza, appealed to all stake holders to increase their prices 25-30% immediately for the survival of carton manufacturing industry.

APCCMA also appealed to the Govt., to look into this matter on war-footing basis and abolish the duty on paper. Furthermore, stop the export of paper for the sake of this industry and urged to the Economic Advisor for Commerce, Mr. Razzak A. Dawood, to give his precious time to discuss the concerning matters
