Electricity tariff, likely to hike,

Karachi, August 22, 2023: In terms of monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA), the power authorities are likely to approve another rise in power tariff by Rs2.07 per unit.

The power companies have requested Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) an increase in electricity tariffs by Rs 2.07 per unit for the July fuel charge adjustment (FCA).

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to review these requests on August 30. The application states that in July, 37.18 percent of power generation came from thermal resources, 14.68 percent from coal, 1.98 percent from furnace oil, and 1.967 percent from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

Local power production accounted for 7.61 percent, with 14.29 percent generated from nuclear fuel to produce a total of 14.388 billion units of electricity. The production cost was recorded at Rs8.96 per unit, while the reference cost was set at Rs6.89 per unit.

Earlier this month, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) initiated an investigation into the issue of over-billing related to faulty and slow-speed electricity meters. NEPRA officials have alleged that the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) violated regulations by issuing average bills to consumers.
