Former Test cricketers Basit Ali and Younis Khan expressed that the ‘lack of positive mindset’ is the reason for the national team’s bad performance in the ICC World Cup 2023.
While speaking on a private TV show, the former cricketer Basit Ali said that to create a backup for the main roles, the national team needs a new leader with a positive mindset as the Pakistani cricket team has been playing with the same lineup for the past two to three years.
He emphasized that despite the good performances, the backup players should be prepared as a replacement.
Basit Ali said, that if the performance of the Pakistani team during the World Cup is not up to the mark, the captain will excuse that the squad is getting prepared for the next World Cup.
He further points pointing the weak areas of the national cricket team, saying that the Pakistani star pacer Naseem Shah got injured after which the green shirts are short of a pacer from a new ball, adding that the Pakistani squad is facing issues in the middle order batting as well as the opening pair is failing frequently to make ground for the other batsmen.
Basit Ali further asserted that one of the opening batsmen has to score a century to set a good total for the bowlers to defend.
He criticized the bowling spells of Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz and said that one good performance from any of them could result in the victory of the Pakistan Cricket Team.
The former captain Younis Khan said, “We have to trust Fakhar Zaman, he should be given more matches to get his form back.”
While answering a question, Younis Khan further said that the conditions are new for Abdullah Shafiq, however, he will perform if the management gives him a proper chance.
It is pertinent to mention here that the national team will play its first match in the World Cup on October 6 against the Netherlands.
