Lahore, November 18, 2023 : Mohammad Yousuf has been named the head coach of Pakistan U19 by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday.

“In his new role, Mohammad Yousuf will begin with the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup in the UAE from 8 to 17 December, followed by the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup in Sri Lanka from 13 January to 4 February,” stated the press release. Yousuf, a former batting coach for the Pakistan Men’s Team and the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, is among Pakistan’s highly accomplished batters.

During his cricket career from 1998 to 2010, Mohammad Yousuf accumulated 7,530 runs in Test matches and 9,720 runs in ODIs. Notably, he set a record for the highest number of Test runs in a calendar year by scoring 1,788 runs in 2006.

Mohammad Yousuf expressed his pleasure in being appointed as the Pakistan U19 head coach, stating, “I am honored to contribute to Pakistan cricket under the guidance of Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf.

I eagerly anticipate the U19 Asia Cup and ICC U19 World Cup, crucial for player development, and we will strive to excel in these tournaments.”

Having previously worked with the senior men’s side, Yousuf emphasized bringing his coaching experience to the U19 setup, aiming to create a nurturing environment for young talents to flourish on the international stage.

He underscored the importance of harnessing the skills of young players for the future of Pakistan cricket and pledged to fulfill his responsibility in identifying, improving, and nurturing future stars.
