Smog: Govt enforces smart lockdown in 10 districts of Punjab

Lahore, November 18, 2023 : Due to the recent smog situation, the government implemented a smart lockdown on Saturday in several areas across 10 districts in Punjab.

Details reveal that authorities have chosen to limit daily activities in 10 districts of Punjab, namely Lahore, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin.

Government and private educational institutions are instructed to stay closed, with online classes being allowed. Additionally, markets, shops, cinemas, and restaurants will remain shut until 3 pm.

The environmental department issued a warning to citizens regarding smog as the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 394, making Lahore the most polluted city globally.

Experts recommended wearing face masks and adopting necessary precautions to tackle the smog. Punjab government officials urged citizens and industrialists to collaborate with authorities in addressing this environmental crisis.
