Lahore, November 22, 2023 : A Lahore man died in police custody after reportedly being tortured.
Javed Iqbal was arrested in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony on theft charges. While in police custody, ASI Riaz allegedly subjected him to severe torture, resulting in his death.
Lahore police have detained ASI Riaz, and a case is being filed at Kot Lakhpat against the police officer. This incident adds to a series of reported police torture cases in Punjab.
In a separate event, a 23-year-old named Adil allegedly died due to police torture in the Quaid-e-Azam Factory area of Lahore, leading to protests by the youth’s family and local residents at the police station.
