Weekly inflation hits to 42.68%

Islamabad, December 08, 2023 : Pakistan’s weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), rose by 1.16% for the week ending November 23, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released on Friday.

As per PBS data, the combined index reached 311.78, up from 308.2 on November 30, 2023, and significantly higher than the 218.52 recorded a year ago on December 08, 2022.

The year-on-year SPI has sustained its position above the 40% mark for the fourth consecutive week, driven by a substantial increase in gas prices.

Among the 51 items, the average prices of 15 items increased, 14 items decreased, and 22 items remained stable.

Noteworthy increases during the week were observed in the prices of Onions (8.42%), Energy saver (3.02%), Eggs (2.52%), Electricity Charges for Q1 (2.03%), and Pulse Moong (0.88%).

Conversely, significant decreases were noted in the prices of Tomatoes (9.82%), Potatoes (4.34%), Chicken (2.99%), Tea Lipton (2.58%), and Diesel (2.31%).
