DRAP has shut down fake medicine factory in Karachi

Karachi, December 12, 2023 : On Tuesday, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) raided and closed down a facility in Karachi, suspected of producing counterfeit medicines.

Six individuals, including the factory owner, were apprehended by the police for illicitly producing medicines labeled as Alpine, Alcon, and Trigon.

The Ministry of Health’s spokesperson mentioned that the DRAP team confiscated a significant quantity of counterfeit medicines from the facility.

The counterfeit medicine samples have been sent to the laboratory for analysis.

In the New Karachi area, Karachi police and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) officials carried out a joint raid, recovering a substantial quantity of counterfeit life-saving drugs and raw materials.

The authorities also confiscated two manufacturing units, along with 10 different types of machines and dyes from the factory, as reported by the police officials to the media.

Three individuals were apprehended, with authorities revealing that the factory was purportedly engaged in the production of antibiotics and various types of counterfeit medicines. The arrested suspects were reportedly involved in distributing fake medicines to small medical stores.
