Peshawar, December 12, 2023 : On Tuesday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended a suspect reportedly engaged in the production of counterfeit identity cards in the Sadar area of Peshawar.

FIA officials revealed that the arrested suspect, Nadir Khan, was engaged in producing fake identity cards and other official documents in return for substantial sums of money.

The authorities also seized a significant quantity of counterfeit documents, fake stamp paper, and seals from the individual’s possession.

In the previous month, the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) invalidated over 18,000 illicit Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to address concerns related to the unauthorized issuance of identity cards and cybersecurity at its centers.

The authority, in a statement, acknowledged multiple factors, both external and internal, contributing to the production of counterfeit CNICs.

Acknowledging the contributing factors, NADRA took substantial measures to address the issue. Utilizing monitoring and corrective actions, over 18,000 illegal CNICs were identified and promptly invalidated.

The authority expressed its commitment to rectify the situation through enhanced coordination with other stakeholders and the implementation of rigorous internal scrutiny.
