Pakistan’s active taxpayer count surpasses 5.3 million

Islamabad, December 27, 2023 : The caretaker government’s initiatives are showing positive outcomes, with Pakistan’s active taxpayer count reaching 5.3 million, according to sources from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the updated income tax Active Taxpayer List (ATL), individual taxpayers have reached 3.69 million, while corporate/association of persons (AOPs) have reached 1.67 million, as per data from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue that out of the 11.4 million registered individuals, not all are submitting their income tax returns.

As of October 31, 2023, the FBR has collected more than 2.9 million income tax returns for the tax year 2023. In a previous statement, the Federal Board of Revenue warned that non-filers may experience utility disconnections (electricity and gas) and mobile SIM blocking if they fail to respond to issued notices by filing their returns.

In the previous year, the FBR had received more than 2.5 million returns by October 2022. By September 30, 2023, the FBR had received a total of 1.93 million income tax returns, indicating a slight increase of 0.06 million compared to the 1.87 million received the previous year.
