Pakistan’s ginneries receive 8.17 million cotton bales, marking a 77% increase

Multan, January 04, 2024 : As of December 31, 2023, ginneries across Pakistan have received seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to 8.17 million bales, reflecting a substantial 77.14% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

In a report issued by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Wednesday, it was revealed that arrivals to factories have increased by over 3.5 million bales. Consequently, a remarkable 77.14% increase was recorded in 2023 until December 31 compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Notably, over 4 million bales (40,78,769) arrived at ginning factories in Punjab, marking a surge of over 1.3 million bales and a 47.66% increase compared to 2022. In Sindh, arrivals surpassed 4 million bales (40,92,313), showcasing an impressive jump by 2.241 million bales and a remarkable 121.16% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Over 8 million bales (80,82,744) were processed at ginning factories. The textile sector maintained its lead as the largest buyer, purchasing over 7.3 million bales (73,14,127), while exporters and traders acquired 2,92,126 bales.

The country currently has 241 operational ginning factories, including 210 in Punjab alone, contributing to the preparation of over 4 million bales (40,80,064) in the province. Balochistan received 187,221 bales at its ginneries. As of now, there are 564,829 bales still present at the ginneries as unsold stock.
