K-Electric seeks power tariff hike of Rs 18.86 under FCA

Islamabad, April 29, 2024 : K-Electric has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a substantial Rs18.86 per unit increase in the power tariff. This request is attributed to the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustments (FCA) spanning seven months.

NEPRA is scheduled to conduct a hearing on the K-Electric application on May 9.

In a different development reported on Saturday, it was revealed that the federal government has concluded a plan to privatize profitable power distribution companies (Discos).

Sources within the power division informed ARY News that the Shehbaz-led coalition government has finalized a plan to privatize five profitable power companies.

These companies include Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).

In the initial phase, the government has decided to establish new boards for these power companies. They further stated that the privatization ministry has submitted a summary to the cabinet proposing the formation of a high-powered 12-member board for the privatization of Discos.
