Karachi, August 02, 2024: Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed that vehicle registrations be carried out at showrooms to better serve the public.
In a recent meeting chaired by the minister, it was decided that the second phase of issuing premium number plates will commence soon. This phase will feature 50 premium numbers as part of a fundraising initiative for flood victims.
Memon announced that an online fundraising event will be held to offer around 200 premium numbers to donors. Additionally, separate smart cards will be issued to individuals who acquired premium number plates during the first fundraising event held on June 29.
These smart cards are intended to prevent forgery of premium plates and will be reissued if the vehicle is changed.
Previously, the Sindh Excise Department raised Rs 675.4 million through the auction of 40 premium number plates. The highest bid was for license plate number 1, which sold for PKR 100 million.
Other notable sales included plate number 5 for PKR 53 million, plate number 7 for PKR 46 million, plate number 8 for PKR 41 million, and plate number 9 for PKR 40 million.
Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that the funds from the auction will be used to construct 2,251 homes for flood victims.
