Karachi, October 13, 2024 – In light of the potential risk of clashes, the district administration has imposed Section 144 across the city, enforcing a complete ban on rallies and protests. This restriction has been implemented immediately and will remain in effect for 5 days, aiming to maintain law and order and reduce the risks of conflict.

Increased Security Around the Press Club, Entry Routes Closed
On Sunday, the district administration unexpectedly enhanced security around the Karachi Press Club, completely blocking all entry and exit routes. Containers and buses have been placed around the Press Club to seal off all access, in an effort to prevent any unpleasant incidents. A heavy police presence has been deployed in the vicinity of the Press Club, with several police vehicles also stationed in the area. In this situation, members of the Karachi Press Club are unable to enter the premises.

Announcement of Rallies Regarding the Blasphemy Law and Risk of Clashes
Sources indicate that several organizations in the city had announced rallies in favor of and against the blasphemy law, raising concerns about deteriorating law and order. Following the announcement of simultaneous rallies by two different groups on the same issue, the Additional IG of Sindh Police decided to promptly enforce Section 144.

Restrictions Under Section 144
According to the notification issued by the government, there will be a complete ban on all types of rallies and protests in Karachi from October 13 to October 17. During this period, no organization or group will be allowed to hold public gatherings or rallies.

Increased Security in Key Areas
With the enforcement of Section 144, security has also been heightened in key areas of Karachi, such as Shahrah-e-Faisal, Clifton, and other sensitive locations. Police and law enforcement agencies are patrolling the city to address any potential emergencies.
