ISLAMABAD, 19th December 2024: Tetra Pak, a global leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has launched its first-ever Sustainability Report for Pakistan, marking a significant step towards promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability in the country. This report serves as a local supplement to Tetra Pak’s FY23 global Sustainability Report. The launch event, held in Islamabad, was attended by key government officials, diplomats, and policymakers, with Hammad Shameemi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The report highlights the challenges Pakistan faces, including unclear environmental policies, resource scarcity, and inadequate waste management and recycling infrastructure. Despite these hurdles, Tetra Pak is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and supporting decarbonization efforts at its production facilities. The company is also intensifying its recycling initiatives and promoting environmental awareness to help shape a sustainable future.
As part of its commitment, Tetra Pak has partnered with Green Earth Recycling to recycle 35,000 tons of used beverage cartons by 2025. The company is also working closely with WWF to educate young students about recycling and environmental awareness. Through its investment in International Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs), Tetra Pak has reduced carbon emissions by 80% at its Lahore plant.
