KPT Presents Three Major Investment Opportunities to Dutch Delegation
Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has presented three major investment opportunities to a visiting Dutch delegation, highlighting plans to expand port infrastructure, modernise maritime facilities and promote sustainable port operations.
Chairman KPT Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed SI(M), S.Bt (Retd), briefed the delegation, led by Dutch Ambassador Robert Jan Seigert, on Karachi Port’s development, operational performance and expansion programme.
During the meeting, the chairman highlighted the capabilities of KPT and its terminal operators. He said policy reforms had helped increase transshipment and bunkering activities, contributing to Karachi Port’s improved international standing.
He also outlined KPT’s plans to develop a smart, digital and environmentally sustainable port. These initiatives include artificial intelligence-enabled operations, a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP), electric equipment, renewable energy and mangrove rehabilitation.
Three Key Investment Projects
The chairman presented three flagship investment prospects to the delegation.
The first is the 140-acre Maritime Business District, which aims to create opportunities in maritime commerce. The second is the 17-acre Manora Shipyard modernisation project, focused on upgrading shipyard facilities. The third is the South Wharf development, which offers potential for new berths and specialised terminals.
The projects could provide opportunities for international investors and maritime businesses to participate in Karachi Port’s expansion and modernisation.
KPT Seeks Dutch Investment and Cooperation
Chairman KPT invited Dutch companies and investors to explore partnerships in port infrastructure, dredging, digitalisation, bunkering, renewable energy and sustainable maritime services.
He said greater international investment and collaboration could support KPT’s development plans and strengthen maritime cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
The Dutch ambassador thanked the KPT chairman for the briefing and expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s blue economy. The visit concluded with a group photograph of the delegation and KPT officials.
