BYD-MMC’s ‘She Runs’ Initiative Attracts Over 500 Applicants in Karachi
Ten women selected for a 10-week professional training programme ahead of the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027.
Mega Motor Company (MMC), in partnership with BYD, has selected 10 women for its ‘She Runs’ initiative after receiving more than 500 applications. The programme aims to encourage more women to take part in long-distance running through professional coaching and structured training.
The final selection event was held at Ramada Creek in Karachi. It brought together 50 shortlisted candidates for physical assessments and fitness evaluations.
The candidates took part in a 10-kilometre endurance run, fitness tests, interviews and medical assessments. They also completed warm-up and cool-down exercises as part of the selection process. Following these evaluations, 10 women secured places in the programme.
The initiative is part of MMC’s sponsorship of the BYD Karachi Marathon for the second consecutive year. The marathon will take place on January 3, 2027.
The selected participants will now undergo a 10-week professional training programme to prepare for the event. The training will focus on improving endurance, building physical fitness and developing the skills needed to complete the marathon.
The programme will be led by Shah Faisal Khan, Co-Founder of Platinum Fitness and a strength and conditioning coach specialising in marathon performance and rehabilitation. He will be joined by Uzma Abid, a marathon runner and running coach associated with UESCA and MatrixFit.
Commenting on the initiative, Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin and CSR at Mega Motor Company, said the strong response reflects growing interest among women in sports and physical activities.
She explained that many women want to participate in sports but often lack access to professional training and support. As a result, they struggle to pursue their sporting ambitions.
Abdullah said ‘She Runs’ aims to bridge this gap by providing women with professional coaching, guidance and opportunities to achieve their goals.
Through this initiative, MMC aims to promote healthier lifestyles, encourage greater female participation in sports and support emerging athletic talent in Pakistan.
The programme also highlights MMC’s commitment to community engagement, fitness and inclusion beyond its core automotive business.
