Islamabad ,November 09, 2023 : The process of repatriating illegal foreigners, predominantly Afghans, persists as 207,758 immigrants have been sent back to their home countries by November 9th.
A total of 4,119 illegal Afghan immigrants returned to their homes yesterday, comprising 702 families who traveled to Afghanistan in 251 vehicles. Authorities note a continuous influx of undocumented Afghan immigrants returning to their home country daily.
Illegal immigrants, primarily Afghans, are returning to Afghanistan through the Chaman and Torkham border crossings. Women and children among them are receiving complimentary transportation services from the Landi Kotal holding camp to the Torkham border, connecting Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Additionally, 2,975 illegal immigrants were voluntarily repatriated through Angor Ada in South Waziristan, as stated by a spokesperson for the state news agency. The promotion of voluntary repatriation is underway.
The repatriation process from Punjab persisted, with officials from relevant departments aiding individuals through the Torkham border.
On Wednesday, Pakistan decided to grant a six-month extension to the stay of registered Afghan refugees in the country. Sources indicate that the decision received approval from the caretaker federal cabinet through a circulation summary.
Acting on the recommendations of the foreign office and interior ministry, the caretaker government of Pakistan has chosen to prolong the stay of Afghan refugees holding POR (Proof of Registration) cards. The original expiration date of June 30, 2023, has now been extended until December 31. This decision is set to provide relief to registered Afghans and their families.
