On Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded in San Mateo, California, where an Indian family of four was discovered deceased inside their residence, prompting authorities to investigate a potential murder-suicide scenario.
The family hailed from Kerala, India, and consisted of Anand Sujith Henry (42 years old), his wife Alice Benziger (40 years old), and their twin boys, aged four.
Police were summoned to the family’s residence on the 4100 block of Alameda de las Pulgas on Monday morning following concerns about their well-being when they failed to respond to attempts at contact. Despite no signs of forced entry, officers gained access through an unlocked window and made a grim discovery: the bodies of the adult couple, both with gunshot wounds, were found in a bathroom.
A 9mm pistol and a loaded magazine were also found at the scene. Meanwhile, the twin boys were discovered in a bedroom, their cause of death still under investigation, with possibilities including smothering, strangulation, or poisoning, as no visible signs of trauma were evident.
According to court documents, Henry had initiated divorce proceedings in December 2016, though the case remained unresolved. Previous police responses to calls from the residence have been acknowledged, but details have not been disclosed publicly.
Investigators are diligently working to ascertain a motive behind the deaths, given the absence of a suicide note. Both Henry and Benziger, who had been in the US for nine years, were skilled IT professionals—Henry as a software engineer and Benziger as a senior analyst.
