PCB dismisses Wahab Riaz

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed former cricketer Wahab Riaz from his role as senior manager of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.

Sources also disclosed that team manager Mansoor Rana has been relieved of his position.

Ahead of the upcoming series against Bangladesh, the PCB has opted to introduce new faces into the team management.

Yesterday, Wahab Riaz was also ousted from the seven-member Pakistan Men’s Cricket Selection Committee along with former cricketer Abdul Razzaq.

This restructuring of the national men’s team’s selection committee aligns with the “major surgery” hinted at by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The decision comes in the wake of Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.

Following two consecutive defeats in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, PCB Chairman Naqvi indicated a need for significant changes within the team.

Speaking at a press conference in New York on June 10, following Pakistan’s loss to India, Naqvi expressed profound disappointment.

“It initially appeared that minor adjustments would suffice for the Pakistan cricket team, but after such a dismal performance, it has become evident that major changes are necessary,” stated the PCB chairman.
