Karachi, July 11, 2024: On Wednesday, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced the arrest of a high-profile terrorist associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Law enforcement officials stated that the individual was planning an attack on a Muharram procession in Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference, DIG CTD Asif Ijaz Sheikh announced that the arrested terrorist, identified as Muhammad Shuaib, was planning an attack on a procession scheduled for the 8th of Muharram in Karachi’s Orangi Town.
He disclosed that the CTD team apprehended Shoaib from Ittehad Town and seized a suicide jacket from him. “He had joined the TTP after coming to Karachi,” he added.

Sheikh reported that the CTD team apprehended Shoaib from Ittehad Town and recovered a suicide jacket from him. “He joined the TTP after arriving in Karachi,” Sheikh added.
The arrested terrorist has provided valuable information to authorities, leading to significant progress in the case, according to the DIG CTD.

Sheikh warned of strict action against those involved in such heinous activities and vowed to bring the facilitators of terrorists to justice.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities across the country, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the outlawed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
It is noteworthy that militants have targeted Muharram processions on several occasions, including a bomb blast that claimed more than 40 lives during the main Ashura procession on Karachi’s M.A. Jinnah Road in December 2009.
Asif Sheikh stated that the CTD remains on high alert due to security concerns during Muharram, with all officers diligently working to prevent any untoward incidents.
He emphasized that all CTD officers are considered at risk, following the recent assassination of CTD DSP Ali Raza and a security guard near Karachi’s Karimabad area two days ago.
A security guard, affiliated with a private security company, was also injured in the gunfire and later succumbed to injuries during treatment at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Khattab confirmed.
Police reported finding 11 bullet casings at the scene, indicating that the assailants had fired multiple shots.
The deceased DSP frequently visited his ancestral home in Shakeel Corporation in Karimabad.
