Karachi, August 24, 2024: The Karachi police have announced the formation of a special investigation team to probe the Karsaz accident case involving a female suspect.
The woman has been charged with causing the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his daughter, Amna Arif, near the Karsaz area on August 19. Investigators have collected all CCTV footage related to the incident and are currently reviewing it. The blood test results for the driver are expected within the next 24 hours.
Based on the medical reports, additional charges may be added to the FIR, which will guide the future course of the investigation, according to the investigative team. The woman involved in the case has reportedly been changing her statements throughout the investigation.
Police sources revealed that the suspect was traveling from her home in DHA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ residence, a distance of about 3-4 kilometers, when the incident occurred. It has also been confirmed that the vehicle she was driving is registered under a private company’s name.
The investigation has led to the inclusion of new charges, including Section 322 Qatal-bis-Sabab (murder without intention), which carries a punishment of blood money. Under Section 322, the accused could face a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 18 years.
Additionally, the victim’s family has the option to pursue a settlement, known as *diyat* (blood money), which would require the suspect to pay compensation equivalent to 30,360 grams of silver, estimated at around Rs 6.8 million.
If the family agrees to the settlement, the case may be closed. In the meantime, the police continue to gather more CCTV footage to support the investigation. On Friday, the DIG East urged others who were injured or had property damaged in the accident to come forward and provide statements to the police.
