Karachi, October 29, 2024 – Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Jam Ikramullah Khan Dharejo, announced the provincial government’s commitment to facilitating both foreign and local investors in the food and allied sectors. This initiative aims to generate economic activity and create employment opportunities for the youth.
Dharejo made these remarks during the inauguration of the 17th Plastic Packaging, Corrugated & Food Asia International Exhibition at the Expo Center. He emphasized the food and allied sectors’ substantial contribution to the economy and their immense potential to attract foreign direct investment.
“The growth of food and packaging businesses at the local level, particularly made-in-Pakistan brands, has been remarkable,” Dharejo stated. “The participation of local and foreign companies in this three-day trade fair is a testament to the healthy growth trend within these sectors.”
The exhibition, featuring over 225 exhibitors from more than seven countries, attracted thousands of industry professionals. Participants were allowed to explore new partnerships, network with key players, and gain insights into emerging trends. Notably, the Plastic Packaging segment showcased sustainable solutions and advanced materials, while the Corrugated sector focused on innovative packaging for e-commerce and supply chains. The Food Asia segment highlighted advanced processing technologies aimed at ensuring product safety and extending shelf life.
Uzair Nizam, Group Director of Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, remarked, “The introduction of hi-tech food and packaging innovations will enhance the production capabilities of local companies, adding value to their offerings and enabling them to export their products and brands globally.”
As Pakistan seeks to bolster its economic growth and diversification, the importance of value-added industries like packaging and food processing cannot be overstated. The exhibition serves as a vital platform for cutting-edge technologies and tailored solutions that enhance value addition within these sectors.
In addition to the exhibition, the event featured conferences covering various topics, including smart packaging, the future of food and agriculture, and innovations in food technology and sustainability.
This proactive approach by the Sindh government is expected to attract significant investment, enhance the competitiveness of Pakistan’s export markets, and create a dynamic environment for local and international businesses.
