KARACHI, December 09 2024: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has been awarded the esteemed American Hospital Association Excellence Award for Healthcare Workers’ Wellbeing, securing a silver award at the 2024 International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards. This accolade highlights the hospital’s commitment to creating an enriching and supportive workplace for its healthcare professionals, ensuring their health and wellness through forward-thinking initiatives.

The award was presented in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the IHF’s celebration of global healthcare excellence. Ms. Shehreen Ali, Nurse Manager from AKUH’s Employee Health, Family Medicine Department, accepted the honor on behalf of the institution.

Dr. Farhat Abbas, CEO of AKU Health Services in Pakistan, expressed his deep pride in the achievement, saying, “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our Employee Health team, who tirelessly support the wellbeing of every staff member at AKUH. The selection of AKUH as a winner in this prestigious international competition positions the hospital among the world’s leading healthcare institutions. The award celebrates the innovative approaches AKUH employs to sustain the health of its workforce, ensuring the continued success of its mission to provide exceptional care.

In addition to this win, AKUH was also nominated for the Ashikaga-Nikken Excellence Award for Green Hospitals in the IHF Awards 2023, acknowledging the hospital’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The IHF Awards are a globally recognized symbol of excellence in healthcare management and leadership. Judging for the awards is based on five criteria: originality and innovation, intended impact, adaptability and scalability, scientific rigor, and clarity. This year, over 500 submissions from 37 countries and territories were evaluated, with 49 finalists named across seven categories. AKUH was the sole finalist from Pakistan.
