Thar Foundation Launches Skill Development Program for Export-Quality Garments

KARACHI, December 18, 2024: Thar Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Thar Block II entities, has partnered with the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) and Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) to launch a groundbreaking skill development initiative in the Tharparkar region. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today marks the beginning of an exciting journey to empower Thari women with high-quality skills in garment cutting and stitching, tailored to meet export standards in Pakistan’s rapidly growing garment industry.

This program aims to provide expert training in garment production, equipping local women with the skills needed to compete in international markets. Experienced industry trainers will guide multiple batches of women annually, providing them with hands-on experience and valuable industry insights. Currently, 49 trainees have already enrolled, setting a strong foundation for creating a skilled workforce ready to meet export garment standards.

Amir Iqbal, CEO of SECMC and Thar Foundation, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “This collaboration is a reflection of our dedication to uplifting the livelihoods of the Thar community. By working with STEVTA and SAF, we aim to open doors of economic opportunity for local women and contribute to Pakistan’s expanding garment sector.”

Munawar Ali Mithani, Managing Director of STEVTA, highlighted the importance of the MoU, saying, “This is a major step forward in fostering collaboration among key stakeholders to promote technical education and vocational training in Sindh. We are excited to strengthen our partnerships with Thar Foundation and Shahid Afridi Foundation, and this initiative is only the beginning. We are committed to creating more opportunities and advancing the development of Sindh’s youth.”

Zafar Malik, CEO of Shahid Afridi Foundation, expressed his commitment to sustainable development, saying, “SAF is dedicated to transforming lives through skill development programs. Our collaboration with Thar Foundation and STEVTA will create lasting opportunities for local families and enhance Pakistan’s industries, making our youth more competitive in the global marketplace.”

Through this partnership, Thar Foundation, STEVTA, and SAF are taking significant steps toward empowering women in Tharparkar, helping them gain valuable skills that will benefit not only their families but also contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s garment industry.
