PPDA Thanks Maryam Nawaz for Swift Action Over Lahore Petrol Pump Assault
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her prompt response to an alleged assault on a petrol station employee in Lahore, saying her intervention has helped restore confidence among petroleum dealers and frontline workers.
In a letter to the chief minister, PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh appreciated the action taken following the reported incident at Shell Master Fuel Hub in Jubilee Town, Lahore.
According to the association, the incident began when an employee asked a person travelling in a black Prado to stop smoking inside the vehicle at the petrol station. The individual allegedly responded by assaulting and verbally abusing the employee. Four women were also reportedly present in the vehicle.
PPDA Highlights Petrol Station Safety
Khuda Bakhsh said petrol station employees are responsible for enforcing safety rules designed to protect customers, workers and the public. He stressed that smoking and mobile phone use at petrol stations can increase the risk of fire and other serious accidents.
He added that the employee was carrying out his professional duty by asking the individual to follow the prescribed safety precautions. However, the worker allegedly faced physical assault and inappropriate behaviour in response.
The PPDA chairman said employees should be able to enforce safety regulations without facing threats or violence. He described the protection of workers’ safety and dignity as essential to maintaining safe operations at petrol stations.
Association Seeks Meeting with Chief Minister
The association said petroleum dealers across Pakistan had welcomed Maryam Nawaz’s prompt intervention. According to Khuda Bakhsh, the response had boosted the morale of frontline employees who continue to perform safety-related duties under challenging circumstances.
The PPDA chairman also expressed the association’s senior leadership’s desire to meet the chief minister in person to thank her and discuss issues affecting petroleum dealers and petrol station employees.
He called for continued efforts to ensure that safety regulations are effectively enforced and that workers receive adequate protection while performing their duties.
The association said safeguarding petrol station employees is closely linked to maintaining public safety and ensuring compliance with essential safety protocols.
